Vaccinations are the most effective tools in veterinary medicine. They prepare your pet’s immune system to recognize and fight off serious diseases before exposure happens. Many of the illnesses we vaccinate against, including rabies, parvovirus, and distemper, are either fatal or extremely difficult to treat once contracted. Staying current on pet vaccinations also protects other animals and people in your community by reducing the spread of contagious and zoonotic diseases.
Every pet that walks through our doors becomes part of the Eagle Animal Hospital family. We’ve built our practice around long-term relationships, which means we know your pet’s history, watch for the small changes year over year, and treat each wellness visit as a chance to keep your dog or cat healthy at every stage of life.

Find answers to the questions pet owners most often ask us about vaccines, schedules, and how to keep your dog or cat protected.
Pennsylvania law requires all dogs and cats over 12 weeks of age to be vaccinated against rabies. The first rabies vaccine lasts 1 year, with 3-year boosters after. All other canine and feline vaccines depend on your pet's lifestyle.
Puppies start canine vaccines at 8 weeks, with boosters every 4 weeks until 16 to 20 weeks. Kittens begin feline vaccines at 8 weeks with boosters at 12 and 16 weeks. Starting on time matters because young animals lose maternal immunity around this age.
After the first year, core vaccines like DAPPv for dogs and FVRCP for cats are given every 3 years, along with the rabies booster. Lifestyle vaccines such as Lyme, Lepto, Bordetella, Influenza, and Felv are given yearly.
Pet vaccinations are very safe, and most pets have no reaction. Some may show mild tiredness or soreness for a day or two. Rare reactions include vomiting, diarrhea, facial swelling, or hives. Call our office right away if you notice these.
